About us
The Antarctic Observatory for the Study of Microbial Communities In Soils and Rocks is a project funded by the National Program for Research in Antarctica (PNRA 2022), coordinated by Professor Laura Zucconi from the University of Tuscia, with the participation of the ENEA laboratory of observations and measures for the environment and climate. The observatory's objective is to establish a permanent observation system for the collection and monitoring of environmental parameters and ongoing changes, with the aim of studying their influence on the biotic component of rocks and soils in Victoria Land.
The observatory manages a monitoring network consisting of four stations installed in Victoria Land. These stations continuously collect data, transmit them via a satellite system to a portal, from which they are extracted and displayed on this website.
